Day 3

Hockey Results & report:
EA Boys 4-0 Combined Astros (MVP Cameron Devine)
EA Girls 4-1 Cougars (MVP Jasmine Banks)

With the Canadian National Field-Hockey Championships taking place in Calgary finding a suitable pitch and opposition proved tricky. We were forced to adapt our style of play to the new surface but coped admirably. A focus on clean hitting and close control was essential. On our journey to the stadium complex we were worried that the games may not go ahead due to a huge electrical storm. Fortunately this cleared just in time for our first match. The boys played well creating many chances but struggled to score the goals that they build up play deserved. After a slow opening 10 minutes we managed to convert a few chances and went into half-time 4-0 to the good. A second half that we dominated failed to produce any further goals. A satisfying start to the tour and good news that we have confirmed an extra-fixture in Vancouver for next week.

The Girls then got their opportunity with ominous clouds gathering overhead. The first 10 minutes were tense as both teams sussed each other out. Then the EA team started to find their feet and the goals started to flow with a great all round team display. We went in at half-time with a deserved 3-0 lead. In the second half the Canadians started to gel and it was a far more competitive spectacle. Another positive start to the tour, although through talking to our opponents we hear that the level of hockey improves significantly as we move West towards British Columbia, so we will need to make sure we maintain our high standards.

(p.s. A very Happy Birthday to Mr Sales as well!)
